The brief
Where it started
Concrete Cinema reopened after ten dark years with a new programme, an old building and an audience that had forgotten it existed. The brutalist hall divided opinion in the city.
Rather than soften the architecture, the new programme team wanted to make it the reason to come back.
The idea
Let the building do the talking.

The work
What we did
01
System
A modular type system drawn directly from the façade grid, flexible enough for a weekly programme and a three-person team.
02
Wayfinding
Signage for all four floors, cast into the walls where we could and painted where we couldn’t. Even the toilet signs follow the grid.
03
Sound
A four-second sonic logo recorded inside the ventilation ducts. It now plays before every screening.

In their words
Rare to find a studio that cares as much about the toilet signs as the logo. Nothing was left to chance.
